That is what 35 year old, happily married, mother of two, Alexis Summers finds out when she decides it is time to return to work.
After being a stay-at-home mum for the past nine years, Alexis now realizes a complete career change is just what she needs.
She becomes a Concierge Attendant in a prestigious hotel in Melbourne working for the owner of the hotel, Bryce Clark. He resides in the penthouse, is extremely hot, and is a man who always gets what he wants. And what he wants is Alexis.
She does a relatively good job resisting Bryce at first, but the undeniable chemistry, sexual tension, and playfulness between the two of them is intense. He has copious amounts of money, sex appeal and above all else, is a genuinely nice guy. Bryce has been waiting for his one true love to come along, and he is positive that one true love is Alexis.
There is one problem; she is happily married to Rick, and no matter how strong her feelings are for Bryce, she is adamant she will not cheat. She draws a line in the sand, but finds it increasingly hard not to cross. Will she succumb to Temptation?
I received this book from the author, K.M. Golland, as part of a promotional tour. I was asked for an honest review and so I shall deliver.
This is the first book I’ve ever read from K.M. Golland and I have to say, I loved it! I only had one issue with it… the overuse of the word “smirk” in various forms and that is only because it is a pet peeve of mine. Although it showed up a total of 62 times, it fit the cockiness of the leading man, Bryce. The only time it truly irked me was when the smirking was done by someone else.
Only Bryce is allowed to be cocky and smirk.
Without thinking I twisted around to see his expression, causing our faces to be only inches away from each other. Oh shit, not again. I was about to object to the pending kiss when he spoke first.
“Don’t worry, Alexis, I’m not going to kiss you again.” Phew that’s a relief! Or is it? “Every single entire ounce of me wants to grab you and kiss you until our mouths are dry. Then, I want to rip your dress from you, take your underwear off with my teeth, and kiss every inch of your fabulous body…paying a lot of attention to your sexy arse, gorgeous tits and wet—”
“Bryce…,” I began, swearing that my heart had stopped beating. I was panting and well and truly lubricated in the very underwear he wanted to tear off me.
He didn’t let me finish though, and continued. “…but, I’m not going to, Alexis. Not until you tell me you want me too. I will never cross that line again and kiss you without your permission. That doesn’t mean I don’t want to though. That will not change.”
I was speechless and utterly craving what he had just declared. He was smirking at me, which I would normally find completely irritating but also endearing. This time, however, his smirk made me mad and more to the point, extremely pissed off. I placed both my hands on his chest and shoved him, forcing him to stumble back and nearly fall on his arse.
“You can’t just say that and smirk at me, Bryce. What am I supposed to do with that confession? What do you want me to do?”
I stepped off the ladder and stomped like a child to the elevator door. He followed and stood with his back against the wall facing me, his hands in his trouser pockets looking quite casual and relaxed.
“I know you feel it, Alexis. You want me between your legs just as badly as I want to be there.”
“Bryce, stop it! You are so far out of line it’s not funny.”
He started to laugh, so I turned to face him. Is he for real? He is so infuriating—yet adorable—yet maddening—yet delectable. Oh my god, he is turning me into a freaking yo-yo.
Without thinking, I slapped him across the face. He rubbed his cheek and smiled at me impressively. Trying desperately to keep my furious expression, I glared at him, but I was very slowly losing the battle with the muscles in my face. He laughed again and I followed suit.
“I hate you right now,” I blurted out, looking away from him. I was beyond being polite and stepping on eggshells where our employer/employee relationship was concerned. He had overstepped that mark well and truly.
“No, you don’t.”
“Yes, I do,” I bit back, as it dawned on me suddenly that the elevator was not moving. “Bryce, I need to go home before I punch you. Press the bloody button.”
He laughed, but this time he was mocking me.
I shot him a challenging look. “Oh, you don’t think I can punch you?”
He shook his head in response.
“Go on, kiss me again, I dare you,” I goaded him.
He was on me like a flash, pushing me hard up against the wall, ravaging my mouth with his own, and sending pure intense passion through his tongue onto mine. I aggressively ran my hands through his hair as he lifted me up, allowing me to wrap my legs around his waist. No, No, No! Stop it, Alexis. What did you say that for, and where is this punch you so boldly threatened him with?
Releasing my legs from around his waist, I dropped them to the ground and punched him in the arm. I tried to get in a second blow, but he caught my fist and brought my arm down, spinning me around and causing me to be cross-armed across my chest and perfectly secured to his abdomen.
Holding me there for a few seconds, he then whispered softly into my ear, his breath hot and paralyzing. “You gave me permission, Alexis. You can’t then attack me, not that I’d call that an attack. In fact, you need a lot of instruction on attack and self-defense. So, on Monday morning you are coming to my self-defense class. Wear some clothes you don’t mind working up a sweat in.”
“Let me go, I need to go home to my husband.” I hissed at him.
He released me and hit the button to his apartment. The doors opened and I stepped out, making my way to my bag. I quickly picked it up and turned to meet his face, finding him leaning up against the entryway wall where we had first kissed earlier that day. It felt like that kiss had happened days ago, but I guess that was because so much had happened in such a short space of time, and I hadn’t really let it all settle in yet. Thank god the next day was Saturday. I wanted the entire weekend to recover from the head fuck that this day had been.
I began to talk, but he cut me off. “I can’t help myself, Alexis. You…you are like no one I have ever met, and I want you.”
“You can’t have me Bryce, I’m taken.”
He stared deep into my eyes. “I don’t believe anything is absolute. Things change, people change. Circumstances change.”
Smirk all you want Bryce, just push ME up against a wall!!
I honestly couldn’t put this book down. It had sexual tension galore and just when I would reach my limit of waiting for something yummy to happen, it would! Then we’d get to start on the climb to the high all over again. There were a couple moments, some critics might consider cliche,(references to some amazing movies) but it’s moments we all wish we had the opportunity to live, so how can we fault the author for bringing those moments to Alexis? Besides, if there is ANY man who could pull those moments off…it’s Bryce. Damn that man is fine!
The title of this book couldn’t represent this book any truer. Temptation. Pure and pleasurable temptation. You feel the war of emotions Alexis has going on in her mind and heart. It also makes you think about your own life and if you were in her shoes.
“You’ve only ever been with Rick, Alexis. You don’t know any other way. If you could spend one week with me; just one week—let your guards down—I could show you that there is more than what you have grown accustomed to with Rick.”
He placed his hands on either side of my face and gently flexed his fingers. I love how he holds my face.
His eyes were so honest and upfront. “I could show you that you are falling in love with me, too.”
“It’s not that simple, Bryce. I’m happy. If I was miserable in my marriage then that would be a different story, but I’m not, I’m happy; I’m content.”
“That’s just it, Alexis. Are you happy with being content?” Well I thought I was until you put it like that.
Who will Alexis ultimately choose? Will forces of nature push her into Bryce’s arms? Or will a betrayal by her husband, Bryce or both, destroy her feelings and make her question if she’s just been a pawn in a game they’re playing and her heart a coveted prize for their ego?
