“Siren Song” by A.C. Warneke

A Wolf

For eighteen years Duncan Tremain has been able to control his wolf, only letting the beast out to play when the moon is full. This unyielding discipline has given him the ability to conquer whatever hardship should come his way; until Lexi Darling appears in his life. With her joie de vivre and innate sensuality, he is enchanted from the start but the more time he spends in her company the more he can feel his control slipping and the chains that bind the wolf breaking. Determined to keep her safe, he desperately tries to keep his distance, which is a challenge since he is her new boss and Lexi is persistent.

A Siren

A virgin in a temptress’s body, Lexi wants Duncan the first moment she lays eyes on him. Just as Duncan is determined to keep his distance, Lexi is determined to break down his defenses and waltz with him in the moonlight. She pursues him relentlessly, accidentally using her newly discovered Siren gifts to lure him to his downfall.

A love that has other plans

Giving in to temptation has never been so wonderful even as both have their reasons to make sure the relationship doesn’t get too deep. But the wolf knows what he wants and he wants the Siren.

I received this book from the author, A.C. Warneke, as part of a promotional tour.  I was asked for an honest review and so I shall deliver.

The Review

This is the first book I’ve read by A.C. Warneke and let me just say I was blown away.  It was funny, sexy, sweet, passionate and everything in between!

Lexi Darling is the pen name for Alexandra Rudnar.  She comes from a prestigious and wealthy family, but Lexi doesn’t fit into their mold. She’s eccentric and a rebel.  She prefers to make it on her own, live life by her own rules. Instead of living at home with mommy and daddy, she lives with two male roommates, neither has she had sex with. In fact, Lexi is a virgin.  All of these qualities are what I love so much about Lexi.

The book opens up with Lexi sitting at a bar shooting tequila shots off the sexy bartender, Dima, who is also one of her roommates. While she is sitting there, Duncan walks in.

Feeling a change in the air, Lexi abruptly stopped talking and twisted around to see what could have caused it. She very nearly spontaneously combusted when she saw Him. It was an unfamiliar, and slightly terrifying, reaction for her to have towards anyone, especially a stranger. Usually she enjoyed admiring from afar with a cool detachment but that wasn’t possible in this case.

One thought crowded out all of the others: this man was a warrior, sleek, strong, powerful and a little bit dangerous. And virile. Definitely virile. His mere presence was playing havoc with her hormones from across the room. There was no telling what he would do to her up close and personal and a delicious shiver went down her spine at the thought.

From where she stood, she appreciated the way he wore his clothes, wondering how he would look out of them. He was very well-dressed, very expensively dressed, in a dark, Italian suit and a white shirt, the whiteness emphasizing his golden skin. Her fingers curled into her palm at the thought of touching that carved jaw, those lush lips. And she saw that those lips were set in a firm line as he surveyed the room with piercing eyes, not missing a thing. He looked like he was checking the space out for danger except he was the most dangerous thing there.

The wool-clad warrior was a devastatingly handsome man, with a sculpted face: a strong jaw, high cheek bones and a straight nose, softened only by lips that were made for sin, lush and wicked. His raven black hair was short but long enough to drag her fingers through. It was also perfect without a single strand out of place and she had the strangest urge to walk up to him and just muss it up a bit. She could imagine him with tousled hair, looking down at her with that intense gaze as he moved over her…. Whoa, too far. She told herself to rein in the lustful thoughts and just admire.

“You’re drooling, Lexi,” Dima whispered in her ear.

“I am not,” she shot back, surreptitiously wiping at the corners of her mouth making Dima laugh.

I would be drooling too! Holy Shit!!  YUMMY!!!

When Duncan comes up and asks her to come back to his hotel with him, Lexi jumps at the chance. AND WHO COULD BLAME HER!!??? Unfortunately when Duncan stops in the middle of getting naked to take a phone call(Lexi insisted…stupid stupid girl!) she ends up passing out on the bed. When Lexi wakes up next to him and realizes nothing happened, she makes a mad dash out of there before he wakes up!(STUPID STUPID GIRL!)

But Lexi has more things to worry about. The magazine she writes for has been sold and the new owner has called a meeting. Since her column is unconventional, like Lexi, she knows her head could be on the chopping block and she wants to make an impression on the new owner. Unfortunately the fates are not on her side and she’s 15 minutes late.

“Hey, sorry I’m late but my alarm failed to go off and almost everything else that could go wrong managed to do so,” she called out, stumbling over to her spot, oblivious to the other people in the room. Pulling out her chair, she set her bags on the table, determined to find the necessary folder she had prepared for the new owner. Burying her head in one of the bags, she pulled out the folder with her notes and smiled. Finally, success first time out!

Someone cleared his throat and she looked up. Thank God the chair was behind her since she was pretty sure her spirit completely left her body for a moment. And a body without a spirit is unable to stand on its two inanimate legs. Her bottom hit the chair with more force than she was used to and she hoped she wasn’t going to end up bruised.

“Duncan. Wow, I am so glad we didn’t have sex the other night,” she said without thinking. “Otherwise this meeting would have been really awkward.”

Someone snorted and she heard the words she spoke and flushed hotly. “Not that this isn’t already awkward.”

“I’m glad you could join us, Miss….” he said, arching that expressive eyebrow, acting as if he had never had his hand on her bare breast or his tongue down her throat. Maybe she was still asleep and this was just an elaborate dream because there was no way in hell that the man standing there acting like the new owner of the magazine was the very same man she almost slept with on Friday and who subsequently disturbed her sleep for the rest of the weekend.

If it were a dream, wouldn’t he be smiling at her right now instead of glowering? And along those same lines, wouldn’t they be getting naked and horizontal? But then, if that were true, why were all of her co-workers there, acting as if it weren’t a dream? Someone nudged her and she grimaced. It wasn’t a dream. Okay, she could deal with this. “Um, Miss Darling. Lexi. But you know that.”

“Mmm hm,” he murmured in a non-committal manner.

In the middle of trying to keep her job and have sex with her new boss, Lexi discovers she’s a Siren.

Duncan on the other hand is trying to keep his own secret(*cough* he’s a werewolf), his mind on business and his eyes off Lexi’s ass!

All of this results in some heated, sexually charged moments and funny moments as well! Poor Henry…or Harry…Kerry??

There are also some moments where I wanted to hug Lexi and cry with her.

Quite simply, this book was freaking AMAZING!!!!  I can’t wait to get my hands on more of A.C. Warneke’s books!
