Nicole has been happily married to big shot attorney, Dominic Rose for ten years, but soon after their anniversary he grows cold—as if she doesn’t exist. Meanwhile, another man has been pursuing her far too intently for comfort.
August Corinth is a six-hundred-year-old vampire, cursed to kill and suffer the pain of his victims each night until he can find the one woman who can resist his thrall, his blood mate. Once he’s found her, there are no lines he won’t cross to claim the promised salvation even if it means taking away everything and everyone she loves.
I received a copy of this book from the author, Kitty Thomas, in exchange for an honest review. *Note* On occasion I will find a book that I feel the need to use vulgar language to explain the depths of my feelings/opinions. Please forgive me for those moments. This time is one such review.
How to describe this book…hmmm….I got it!! Mind fuck! Yes, I have to say that is the perfect description! But it’s not just that. It’s different, dark, erotic and one hell of a ride!
Nicole is happily married to Dominic. You get the sense she’s had a really rough past with men, but we never find out the story there, which was a little disappointing, but doesn’t ruin the story at all. It just leaves you with more questions like the rest of the book.
On a chance encounter she meets August, a cursed vampire, who needs blood to survive, but who can’t stop drinking until the victim is dead. It is then he must endure the pain of his crime. Only one thing could save him, but although it’s in the ancient book, it’s never been proven to be real and it’s believed to be a cruel myth, meant to torture those like him. That is until the myth walks into his life and then fights desperately to get the hell away from him.
August does some really crazy shit in attempt to get Nicole to give herself to him. Will he succeed? or will he kill her before it happens?
I could NOT put this book down. I went on so many twists and turns with this book and when I finished I STILL didn’t know if what I thought was real, was really real. But that’s what makes this book/writing so exceptional. Kitty Thomas keeps you guessing and you fight the demons alongside Nicole. You feel August’s pain and sympathize with him, yet you hate him with a passion. The crazy thing is, you feel the same way about Nicole and Dominic! So many things they do that will piss you off, even though you know they do what is required to survive this craziness they’re trapped in.
I usually don’t care for books like this. I can’t handle the not knowing, but in this case it’s one of the things I actually love about it. Does it actually leave off as a cliff hanger? “Technically” NO! But Kitty Thomas is so good, she makes you end up mind fucking yourself! Well played Kitty Thomas….well played!!
