Colleen O’Rourke is in love with love…just not when it comes to herself. Most nights, she can be found behind the bar at the Manningsport, New York, tavern she owns with her twin brother, doling out romantic advice to the lovelorn, mixing martinis and staying more or less happily single. See, ten years ago, Lucas Campbell broke her heart…an experience Colleen doesn’t want to have again, thanks. Since then, she’s been happy with a fling here and there, some elite-level flirting and playing matchmaker to her friends.

But a family emergency has brought Lucas back to town, handsome as ever and still the only man who’s ever been able to crack her defenses. Seems like maybe they’ve got some unfinished business waiting for them—but to find out, Colleen has to let her guard down, or risk losing a second chance with the only man she’s ever loved.

I received a copy of this book from Katie at Little Bird Publicity/ the author Kristan Higgins, in exchange for an honest review.

The Review

First, let me start by saying this is the second book written by Kristan Higgins that I have read.  The first one was “The Perfect Match” and I gave it 4 Stars. (Read “The Perfect Match” review HERE.)  I loved that book, but I found the female Heroine a little weak and strength in a female character is something important to me personally. That being said, I wasn’t sure what I would find with this book.

So…how do I put this…hmm…oh I know!  It was flippin’ FANTASTIC!!!  Absolutely PERFECT! I can honestly say I have no complaints about this book.  The heroine was strong and funny while the hero was sexy and sweet.

Colleen is the Queen of matchmaking in her small town.  She has numerous babies named after her because of this.  However the one person she can’t match up with someone is herself.  She’s only had one true love in her life. Lucas Campbell.  And after a small argument with him, he moved on and married someone else, leaving her to pick up the pieces.  She didn’t even have a chance to get him back before she was dealt the painful blow.  To protect herself from another heart break, she surrounds herself with rumors about numerous sex partners. It keeps people at a distance and keeps them from thinking she’s a sad, lonely girl still crying over her lost love.

Lucas is newly divorced and duty is calling him back home to help out his Uncle Joe, who is like a second father to him.  One of Joe’s dying wishes is for Lucas to help his cousin Bryce to grow up, get a job and become responsible. When he catches Colleen trying out her matchmaking skills on Bryce, Lucas knows he needs to step in and get her to back off. But Colleen is on a mission to not only help her friend Paulie find love with Bryce, but also to annoy Lucas as much as possible.

Can Lucas and Colleen find their way back to each other or will the mistakes they’ve made in the past ruin their chances of a future together?

My Final Thoughts: I REALLY loved this story!  Colleen and Paulie are hilarious. I was laughing so hard I had tears running down my face when Colleen kept flipping her hair, as the sign for abort the mission, after Paulie has her first flirty(disastrous) encounter with Bryce.  I can’t begin to describe to you what leads up to the hair flipping!! HAHA!!

The older ladies sitting around watching Lucas and Bryce work was priceless! I can totally see myself doing that someday!!

I also loved the back story of how Colleen and Lucas met and fell in love.  Kristan Higgins does such a wonderful job with this entire story, I can’t express this enough.  She dished up every emotion into one delicious story and all I can say is “Bon Appetit”!

*NOTE* “Waiting On You” will be released April 1, 2014, but is available for pre-order now.

I should also point out this is Book 3 in the Blue Heron Series.  I have completely skipped Book 1- “The Best Man”, simply because I didn’t discover Kristan Higgins and her writing until I won Book 2- “The Perfect Match” in a contest. Then I was given this amazing opportunity to read “Waiting on You”.

Now I know for a fact I need to get my butt in gear and start at the beginning!!

HOWEVER, I also want to point out these books have been written so beautifully, you don’t feel like you’re missing out on anything if you mix up the order.

Below are the books in their proper reading order.
