Laney Collins has been the wife to Michael for years and even when after his love turned into pure cruelty toward her weight gain she has remained his faithful loving wife. Her love for her daughter Callie and son Kaleb gives her faith that in the end it will all be worth it.
After years of not working Laney gets hired on as the assistant for Dr. Chance Turner. The chemistry between them is electric but their marriages keep them apart until one painful evening Laney has had enough and all she can think of is Chance.
A steamy affair hidden with lies and secrets turns into a love no longer forbidden. A love that loves her for everything she is and sees the beauty beyond the weight. A love that lasts forever.
I received a copy of this book from the author, Christy Dilg, in exchange for an honest review.
I happen to be on a roll with getting the first books written by new authors. As a first one I found it enjoyable. I did laugh, cry and say WTf?? It is a short read so it was a nice change of pace to be pulled in. I did find at times the dual point of view got to be a bit too much as it was saying the same thing from both without much change. It could have used more of what he/she was feeling. The story flowed well and is totally believable.
Laney has been married for many years with two teenage children, yet she hides a secret. Or at least she thinks she does. Children are not as dumb or blind as we think they are and the author made sure to point that out.
Her life consists of her husband always putting her down and now she is at the point where she’s starting to believe everything he’s saying about her. She takes a job as an assistant, that her friend set up for her. Little does she know that Dr. Chance Turner is also in a loveless marriage and from the first moment they meet they both feel the sparks.
Chance married out of obligation and was pushed into it by his family. Yet his new assistant awakens things in him he thought were long ago forgotten.
Laney and Chance do the flirting game for a while, then come to an agreement, yet their hearts or fate has other plans. Chance leaves his loveless marriage and starts anew, hoping for the chance to show Laney what love is really like.
When Laney finds the strength to tell her husband she is leaving him, things get really ugly. The verbal and mental abuse turns to a physical one and it is Dr Chance Turner who comes to her side.
I like how Chance is just himself around her children. He’s there for them and accepts them. The interaction throughout was easy to believe and fall in love with. Yet as we all know, things aren’t always perfect and when you have two ex’s things are never going to be easy.
Yes there is a cliffhanger not a bad one really yet you are left looking for the next book. I did find myself wanting to read the next one.
